Hair loss and Treatments

Hair loss and Treatments

Male Pattern Hair Loss, MPH

Androgenic alopecia is the most common hair loss type in men and women. This type of hair loss causes gradual recession at the temples and in the middle of the scalp. The reason is hair follicle’s inherited sensitivity to DHT. The more sensitive the hair follicles to DHT, the more severe hair loss the patient faces.

First, hair starts to thin in quality and quantity, fades and in the end the hair follicles disappear completely. If the father has hair loss problem, it does not mean that his children will have it. Hair loss follows a path where genes inherited from both mother and father, take role incidentally. This new path may develop an independent hair future for the child.

The hair between ears is defined as “permanent hair”. The hair follicles in this area do not have sensitivity to DHT and exist a lifetime.

Female Pattern Hair Loss

One out of every three women experience lost vitality, hair thinning and hair loss problems at some point in their lives.

Hereditary Pattern Hair Loss

The most significant part of women’s hair loss problems consist of the hereditary pattern hair loss. 20% of women who experience hair loss have a history of hair loss in their family.

The male pattern hair loss which is affecting 30 million women in the US has more severe psychological affect on women compared to men and causes higher level of stress.

The rate of male pattern hair loss problem in women is 70%.

Hair loss begins at later ages and develops slowly. Regular hair loss is observed and hair fall is at the maximum rate around the age 40. Hair loss observed early in life is more severe. Women and men experience hereditary pattern hair loss differently; it usually starts from temple and follows through the top in men while women experience vitality loss and thinning problem.

This type of hair loss begins from the middle of the scalp. The frontal hairline and the temporal area usually remain the same. For accurate diagnosis, medical family history and medications used for previous illnesses should be reviewed. As the female pattern hair loss thins down the hair follicles, this case is not the best candidate for hair transplant processes.

Hormonal Imbalance

Hormonal imbalance and hormone therapy are significant reasons for hair thinning and hair loss in women. Birth control pills are often found to cause hair loss.

Thyroid Disease and Iron Deficiency

Hair loss is also seen during the treatment of underactive thyroid or overactive thyroid which are medically known as hypothyroidism and hyperthyroidism respectively.

Iron deficiency anemia can be caused by heavy menstrual flow or by lack of iron in diet. Iron deficiency is the most significant reason for lost vitality and hair loss in women.

Malnutrition and Stress

Malnutrition is one of the reasons for hair loss. Especially bad diet or one-sided diet makes the hair difficult to absorb vitamins, minerals and proteins (the constituent of keratin) that are required in the lifecycle.

Any cause of stress that affects the body, also affects the hair negatively.

Hair Loss Treatments for Women

A different diagnosis schema is used for women. For women’s hair health, three factors should be analyzed in details. These are;

- Hormones
- Diet and certain medication
- Hereditary reasons

Diameter of hair and hair density are evaluated and noted down during the patient’s first visit. Quality of hair follicles is marked. The blood test is done and a table for THYROID, SUPRARENAL GLAND and OVARIAL HORMONE is created. If there are significant deviations, the patient is directed to related doctors

The beginning of the hair loss is noted down. Possible HAIR TREATMENTS depending on the stage and examination are;

a- Balancing Hormones
b- Regulating the diet and vitamin enzyme supplements
c- LLLT – the most convenient type of Low level leser therapies
d- Reversa – özellikle yolunda geçirilmiş operasyon varsa
e- TM hair DETOX
f- TM hair MESOTHERAPHY
g- Topical Hormones
h- Instructions on using topical hair medications at home
i- Natural nutritional supplements- natural hair cures and washing the hair with the right type of water

If the right combination of hair treatment formulas is presented to the patient, improvement is expected by 3-6 months. After 6 months, the improvement is also shown by objective evaluations and amount of new hair observed in the patient’s next TM visit.
