Beard Transplant

Beard Transplant

Beard Transplant (Facial Hair Transplant)

Beards may be as crucial as head hair for men when it comes to self-confidence and good looks. However some men may not have their desired thickness of beard.

According to the statistics published by the International Society of Hair Restoration Surgery in 2008, it has been observed that beard transplant operations have increased by 110% in Turkey and sounding countries, especially as people begin to be informed about facial hair transplant.

Why does the beard shed?

The intensity, quality and texture of the beard hair are determined by genetic factors. The beard thickens and takes its final form within three years after adolescence. The hairs of the beard maintain their characteristic properties unless there is a significant change in testosterone levels.

There is no cosmetic or medication based treatment yet to make the hair grow in those areas that have lost hair. This is true for the beard as well. The solution is beard transplantation.

Beard hair loss may be caused by dermatological diseases as well as autoimmune-related ailments. The hardest cases may be observed with hormonal imbalances. The testosterone level should be controlled when it drops down to a minimum level. Beard hair loss may also be experienced together with a disease called 'alopecia areta'.

Who can have the beard transplant?

The beard transplant can be performed on patients who are over the age of 20-22, when their hormones reach their basic level. The operation is mostly preferred by men who would like to grow whiskers and who like the ‘five o’clock shadow’ look but have uneven or lacking beard hair. A beard transplant may be applied to any healthy men who have partial beard hair loss as well as those who cannot grow a beard.

How is the beard transplant performed?

Anyone who has hair on his head can have a beard transplant. The operation is performed by taking the follicles from an area that has fine hair which is right above the nape of the neck between the two ears.

Just as in hair transplants, the FUE method is applied in beard transplants for those who accept shaving off their hair.

The skin recovers through red scabs on the day the transplant is performed and it starts to regain its normal look without any scars in a week. It is expected that there will be no serious pain or aching after the facial hair transplants.

The results are clearly observed in approximately eight to ten weeks after the operation. It is not possible to distinguish the transplanted hair from the normal beard with the naked eye.
